Tagging members

Is it possible to tag members in posts? I've just posted a reply to Anna and thought that by typing @Anna it would highlight to her that I'd replied but it doesn't appear to have hyperlinked.

@helenstrong

I agree this is a very useful feature. I've just installed an extension that should enable this functionality, this post is serving as a test.

Please let me know if you get a notification. The notification will probably be via the website (the little bell at the top right of the page). In order for a user to be notified by email they will have to have email notifications enabled for "Someone mentioned me" in their used control panel here. I'm looking into a way to enable that by default for new users and set it for existing users, but in the mean time would anyone who wants to be notified by email when they are mentioned in a post please tick the bottom-right box on the page linked above :)

To mention someone in a post you can type and @ then start typing their username. A dropdown list will appear and you can select the desired username. Once you've done that the text in the editor will change to the format...

Code: Select all

[mention]username[/mention]
This is a bbcode and is how the forum handles all things that aren't plain text. If you like you can just type the bbcode directly without using the @, but it's probably less convenient. It needs to handle mentions in this way because usernames on the forum can contain spaces.

@George Mochrie It worked. Thanks! I've also enabled email notifications so I'm informed when I get a mention in future.
