Spam Messages

Post by George Mochrie »

Apologies for the recent spam messages on the forum. I've been busy the past couple of days and only just noticed. I've removed the offending accounts and cleanup is underway. I've also changed the signup procedure so new accounts now need activated by an admin.

The forum wasn't hacked, it was a spambot using multiple IP addresses. No information has been leaked, your email addresses aren't visible on the forum.

Again, apologies.

Update

All offending user accounts and messages should now have been removed, if anyone notices any I missed then please let me know.

The forum email address was taken offline by the web host due to unusual activity, this means that no email notifications were being sent since the 27th of February. The attack generated a huge amount of user signups, those that got through the spam filter were the tip of the iceberg. Every request generated a confirmation email, and that led to security measures temporarily suspending the forum's email account.

I've blocked the IP ranges the attack was originating from, and re-enabled the forum email account. Everything should be back to normal. If you have any difficulty logging in then please let me know using the "Contact Us" button (the envelope at the bottom right of the page) and I'll get it sorted for you.
